A SENSE OF PLACE

Welcome to Terroir Wood Studio, an independent artisan woodworking shop specializing in custom heirloom quality furniture.

Terroir is a borrowed French term loosely translated as "A Sense Of Place." It is used to denote wine, coffee and tea, lending credit to the special characteristics that the geography, geology and climate of a certain place bestow upon particular varieties. Terroir Wood Studio’s work is also based on the sum of the effects that the local environment has on the end product. Feel free to peruse the photographs of my work and allow yourself to become inspired by the organic soul of wood.

My craft as a woodworker is deeply seated in my love for the natural world. From the curves of a coastal white pine to the swirling eddies of flowing rivers, my work strives to mimic the lines of nature. I start by allowing the individuality of the wood to speak to me, and from that place, each piece is born.”

What Can I Create For You?

Client Review

Jason has done two different carpentry requests. He is a professional in every sense. He works diligently and with attention to detail, carefully communicating as the work progresses. He designed and built an updated and artistic entry for our home. His suggestions made the difference between a replacement and a stunning design that we plan to expand upon. We appreciated his knowledge of available materials and options to consider. He is considerate, kind and knowledgeable. We will definitely hire him again.

Artisan Wood Craftsman

Jason has lived and worked extensively throughout the U.S., but his love for woodworking garnered during those initial years urged him to follow his passion. Terroir Wood Studio has been a part of the Northern Michigan landscape since 2012. Jason aims to share his woodworking knowledge and skills with his respected clients and art shows for as long as there is inspiration to be found in the wood and in the hearts of his patrons.
